Calling all incoming and returning graduate students!

Join us on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 4 pm – 7 pm for UTGSU’s annual Gradfest! Enjoy a day filled with free food, swag bags, games and a chance to learn about all the services provided through the UTGSU. You’ll also get the opportunity to interact with awesome graduate specific information tables from our identity-based groups and U of T graduate student organizations that tackle important issues on campus.

Mandatory Training for First-Time TAs

First-time TAs are required to attend 4 hours of TA training. The training this year has been split into 2 parts, offered in multiple sections so that most TAs can find a convenient time to attend.

Part 1 | 3 hours

Section 1: Friday, Sept 7, 2-5 pm, WB116

OR
Section 2: Wednesday, Sept 12, 11 am – 2 pm, BA 1170

Part 2 | 1 hour

A number of 1-hour session sections will be available in October. Dates and locations TBD.

Eric Miller recently received an IATBR Lifetime Achievement Award.

The International Association for Travel Behavior Research (IATBR) has awarded Eric J. Miller their 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award, citing his profound impact on the field of travel behaviour research over the course of his celebrated 38-year career.

Attention Undergraduates: PEY EDGE Conference!

Are you thinking about participating in the Professional Experience Year (PEY) Co-op Program, but are unsure about it? Attend U of T Engineering’s second annual PEY EDGE Conference to see what it’s all about!

Attention MEng, MEngCEM, and MASc Students:

Students who complete all degree requirements by the end of the summer 2018 session MUST graduate at the November 2018 Convocation. You need to indicate your intention to graduate by completing the civil convocation request by Friday, September 14, 2018.

Note the important instructions regarding your convocation request:

  • Your degree requirements must match your program proposal form that you submitted to the Department of Civil Engineering (GB116):
    • MEng: 10 half courses (0.5 x 10). Up to two half courses may be replaced by a research/design project.
    • MEngCEM: 10 half courses (0.5 x 10) and a practicum (1.0 x 1).
    • MASc: Normally, a minimum of 5 half courses (0.5 x 5) and a research thesis. Some sections may require 6 half courses and a thesis. Also, JDE1000H MUST be indicated on your academic record with a final grade of ‘CR’. Your thesis needs to be submitted to the digital library repository to complete all degree requirements by September 28, 2018.

This is a final invitation to get involved in sustainability through LEED Training coming up next week. If you’re discouraged because of a busy schedule, fear not. You are able to watch any part you miss online after class. All classes are recorded!

New Scholarship Alert!

Established in partnership with the University of Toronto, this scholarship is awarded annually to a student enrolled in their first year of a graduate program within the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering whose interests fit with DIALOG’s multidisciplinary approach to design.

Send a letter describing your qualifications, academic and career plans, current academic transcripts, and a curriculum vitae to scholarship@dialogdesign.ca by October 31, 2018.

DIALOG will be on campus in early October to discuss the scholarship and answer any questions you might have.

New Campus Orchestra Available to All Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff!

This campus orchestra is open to all students (at undergrad and graduate levels in any major), alumnifaculty and staff members across campus. We would sincerely like all incoming and returning students to be aware of this new opportunity. Our main goal is to offer a chance to be part of a dedicated, fun, and lower pressure ensemble to the members of U of T who are unable to commit to other ensembles on campus due to their academic and co-curricular commitments.
