Lassonde Mineral Engineering students enjoyed an afternoon on Wednesday, March 18 with spectacular guest speakers, along with branded company merchandise, and capped by a draw for a one-ounce solid gold coin.

Alumna Mariana Pinheiro Harvey (MinE 1T2), the General Manager of Agnico Eagle’s Macassa Gold Mine at Kirkland Lake, Ont., was the event’s keynote speaker. She delivered a talk, Building a Future‑Proof Mine Engineering Career in an Age of AI, after brief appearances by Morgan Murphy, representing the Ontario Mining Association (OMA), and Ali Ravaghi, media and market analyst for The Northern Miner Group.

Excitement brewed with the packed audience as prizes were drawn, culminating in the grand prize event. As a name was announced, a roar from the crowd celebrated as a one-ounce gold coin, donated by Agnico Eagle (produced from gold entirely from the Detour Lake Mine) and presented by The Northern Miner Group, was won by Huang Jiahe (Year 4 MinE).
