Info for Teaching Assistants

Each year the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering employs a number of graduate students as Teaching Assistants (TAs) whose duties include assisting in laboratories and tutorials, marking and invigilating at examinations. Application are available online. A detailed description of salaries, working conditions, etc. is contained in the Collective Agreement between the University of Toronto and CUPE Local 3902 Unit 1. After completing an application, all teaching assistants are assigned by the Associate Chair of the Department based on the Collective Agreement mentioned above and their graduate student funding package.

 

IMPORTANT: By mutual agreement, it is the responsibility of the teaching assistant and his/her supervisor to ensure that the total hours of work as set out in the teaching assistant’s job description are not exceeded. It will be the teaching assistant’s responsibility to inform his/her supervisor in advance if the accumulated total hours of work will exceed the original agreement so that the total hours of work required could be re-considered and approved.
