PIZZA & DRINKS PROVIDED FREE TO ATTEND RSVP IN ADVANCE
Speakers:
Tracy M. Holmes, P.Eng., President
Alida Gálvez, project coordinator
Outline:
This guest lecture covers the basics of bulk solids flow. What makes a bulk solid different from a fluid and a rigid solid? What are the most common flow issues you are likely to encounter at a site? How do you account for these problems at the design stage? Bulk solids are everywhere; from your kitchen to industrial plants to mines. Just as important as it is to ensure crushing and grinding will effectively reduce the size of your ore and flotation cells will allow for proper concentration, making sure that you can; move your ore from A to B, achieve the desired throughput and provide enough surge capacity, are key aspects to ensure a project success!

Tracy M. Holmes, P.Eng. is President of Jenike & Johanson Ltd. and a senior project engineer based in the Greater Toronto Area. She received her B.ASc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Ontario. She specializes in designing and evaluating bulk solids handling systems. Over her 30+ years with Jenike, she has provided consulting services to a broad spectrum of national and international clients.
She has authored and presented many technical papers on various subjects related to reliable bulk solids handling.
Education and sharing information regarding the field of bulk solids handling is one of her passions, so she frequently lectures at Jenike, directly for clients, as well as through organizations, and conferences. Lately her focus is on bringing the science of bulk material handling alive for the next generation of students and young professionals!

Alida Gálvez is a project coordinator at Jenike & Johanson Ltd. based in the Greater Toronto Area. She received her B. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María in Valparaíso, Chile. She has been working with Jenike for almost four years now, she started at the Chilean office and transferred to the Canadian office a year and a half ago. As a project coordinator she focuses on developing flow property test programs and functional design recommendations for bulk solids storage and handling systems.
