The CivMin Construction Research Group offered an inaugural one-day training course on BIM (Building Information Modelling) on Friday, July, 26,2024.
The course, organized by Professor Tamer El-Diraby with participation from Professor Daeho Kim, was aimed at professionals in the construction and asset management industry, as well as graduate students. It focused on how BIM is essential for digitizing the architectural, engineering, construction (AEC), and asset management industries.
“The course is part of a new strategy in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering for deeper engagement with the industry and for contributing to public policy making. I think our graduate students did an excellent job in administering this inaugural event. We are planning to repeat it next year coupling with another course on AI in construction,” says El-Diraby.
The course covered the basics of BIM, advanced uses of BIM, hands-on development of 4D and 5D models, the business case for BIM, ISO19650 and the adoption of BIM. It was organized as a part of the U of T’s contribution to advancing BIM awareness and practices in Canada.
“It was truly an amazing event where experts from various construction backgrounds connected with each other. BIM is the gateway to a new horizon of digitized construction. I was very happy to share our vision with industry professionals,” added Professor Kim.
