Every August our third-year undergraduate students in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering trek to U of T Camp on Gull Lake near Minden, Ont., just prior to beginning their fall studies. Historically known as "Survey Camp" the course, CME358 - Civil And Mineral Practicals, encompasses three components including surveying, sustainable water systems and Highway Curve.
This year's Camp required three sections, instead of the usual two, to accommodate the larger incoming third-year cohort. Professor Oh-Sung Kwon shares some images from Camp 2, which ran August 13-23, 2026 and Camp 3 over August 25-September 4. The images give us a glimpse into the field work and group work the students undertake, as well as some moments of camraderie.
Professor Kwon is also known for his breathtaking astrophotography, showcasing astronomical objects, celestial events and areas of the night sky.
