The Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering (CivMin) strongly supports U of T’s Statement on Equity, Diversity and Excellence, and strives to build an inclusive community where all members have equal opportunity to achieve their full potential, through an environment of mutual respect for the dignity and worth of every person.
U of T Engineering is committed to creating an equitable, inclusive and professional environment for all students, staff and faculty. If you experience or witness an incident of discrimination, harassment or unprofessionalism, you can make a confidential disclosure.
Within CivMin, you can reach out to a staff member in the Undergraduate Office or the Graduate Office. Other options include the Engineering Human Resources office, the U of T Equity Office, or any faculty or staff member that you feel comfortable approaching. They will provide skilled and compassionate support or help you find the level of support that is right for you.
Resources
The Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and the University provide a range of resources for all members of the U of T Engineering community in support of this goal – from outreach strategies to increase representation, to providing all-gender washrooms, to numerous clubs and teams to help every person thrive.
We must all commit to acting against discrimination. Together, we can create a place where each of us feels safe and proud of belonging, and where we know that our contributions matter. We encourage everyone to consider how we will integrate acknowledgement, respect and representation into our behaviours and beliefs to reinforce our strength as a community of inclusion in the months and years ahead.
Engineering Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Group (EEDIAG)
The Engineering Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Group includes dedicated students, staff, and faculty members who strive to create a community at U of T Engineering where students, staff and faculty feel acknowledged, respected and represented. They foster conversations about equity and diversity issues and implement initiatives that promote inclusion on our campus.
The EEDIAG regularly hosts Open Discussions and TIPS (Towards Inclusive Practices Sessions) workshops. All U of T Engineering community members are invited to learn, share experiences, and discuss ideas for new initiatives together. If you have questions or would like to suggest a future Open Discussion or TIPS topic, contact the action group through the form on the EDI page.
Do you have any questions or concerns about Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion?
Please contact the action group through the form on the right side of the EDI page. Submissions may be made anonymously.

Truth & Reconciliation
The Eagles’ Longhouse is a steering committee focused on improving U of T Engineering’s relationship with Indigenous peoples. It consults broadly across the Faculty, engages key Indigenous representatives and engineering educators, and has developed a Blueprint for Action to effect immediate and ongoing improvements in the relationship between the Faculty and Indigenous communities.
Traditional Land Acknowledgement
We wish to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
