Program Requirements
Each student, in consultation with their supervisor at the beginning of the program, will establish the distribution of time between coursework and thesis or design project.
Normally, students complete a minimum of 2.5 full-course equivalents (FCEs) (five half courses) before completing their MASc research thesis.
Students must participate in the non-credit seminar course JDE 1000H Ethics in Research during their first or second session of registration.
Program Length and Time Limit
Students will typically take 24 months to complete the program. This equates to six (6) consecutive sessions of full-time study (typical registration sequence: F/W/S/F/W/S).
Students must complete their program within three (3) years.
MASc to PhD Transfer
MASc students with excellent performance may be permitted to transfer into the PhD program, under the same supervisor, typically after completing no more than fourteen months of their master’s degree program. Approval of transfer will be evaluated based on the student’s advanced research capabilities, as well as academic standing.
To transfer, students must have a recommendation from their supervisor and adequate grades.
