The Ritual of the Calling of the Engineer Obligation Ceremony was held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the University of Toronto’s Convocation Hall. Fourth-year Engineering student who are eligible to graduate receive the ring at the annual ceremony. U of T, known as “Camp 1”, first held the event in 1925.

The Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering hosts a reception afterwards to help celebrate the individual’s achievement. This year’s celebration was held at the nearby Polish Hall.

The ring, worn on the small finger of the dominant hand, symbolizes the pride engineers have in their profession, while simultaneously reminding them of their humility. The ring serves as a reminder to the engineer, and others, of the engineer’s obligation to live by a high standard of professional conduct.
