UT-ITE Seminar

Exploring Use-Cases and Regulations for Public-area Mobile Robots

Friday, January 24 at 11 a.m. in GB117

Join the University of Toronto Institute of Transportation Engineers student chapter (UT-ITE) for a seminar featuring Urban Robotics Foundation’s (URF) executive director Bern Gush.

Abstract: There are many use cases for public-area mobile robots in municipal settings. Beyond last-mile delivery, there are numerous security, maintenance, and hospitality use cases both indoors and outdoors. While these are in various stages of maturity, it is important for city planners and legislators to be aware of the multiple directions mobile robotic technology is taking and to begin considering a regulatory roadmap and initial regulations. This talk will explore the critical connections among standards, regulations, deployment, and acceptance. These interrelationships tend to encourage or dampen innovation.
