Sam Cherniak (MASc candidate) has won the Best Student Award from AWWA

Sam Cherniak (MASc candidate) has won the American Water Works Association Best Student Award for his work Towards a Standardized Sampling and Analysis Protocol for Microplastics in Drinking Water.” The award was presented to Cherniak by Yone Akagi, Water Quality Manager with the Portland, Oregon Water Bureau, an AWWA member and awards judge, while at the AWWA Water Quality Technology Conference in Dallas, TX on November 6, 2019.

Cherniak is a research assistant investigating microplastics in drinking water with The Drinking Water Research Group (DWRG) at U of T. Cherniak is co-supervised by Prof. Robert Andrews in Civil & Mineral Engineering and Prof. Chelsea Rochman in the Department of Ecological and Evolutionary Biology.

The annual AWWA conference provides a forum for water quality professionals from around the world to exchange the latest research and information. Next year’s conference will be held in Schaumburg, Illinois (Northwest Chicago suburbs).
