A paper published by CivMin PhD student Gabrielle Migliato Marega, titled Climate-Resilient Sanitary Sewers through Minimized Inflow, has been awarded Editor’s Choice from the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management.
Marega is co-supervised by Prof. David Meyer and Prof. Jennifer Drake, who are both co-authors of the paper. The publication’s chief editor selects a paper from the current issue of the Journal to be featured in this section.
“Expanding sanitary sewer networks is vital for meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for urban areas. Climate change has been described as the biggest threat to achieving the SDGs. Our paper constructs and applies a model that quantitatively demonstrates that minimizing inflow is essential to ensure climate resilient sanitation and to maximize the utilization of sanitary sewers,” says Marega.
