Purpose
The objective of the Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program is to help develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies. CGS M awards can only be offered to students pursing graduate studies at eligible Canadian Universities and the award must be held at the university that has made the offer.

- Domestic students must submit an online application by December 1, 2021 at 8 p.m. (ET).
Application Process
- Applications, attachments, and references must all be submitted by December 1, 2021 at 8 p.m. (ET).
- All applicants for this award must apply through the NSERC Research Portal.
- When submitting your application, you will be able to select up to five (5) separate universities where you want to pursue graduate studies and hold the award.
- Once you have submitted your online application, it will be viewable to all the proposed universities that you have listed.
- You do not have to submit a paper application.
- As part of the application, you will be asked to upload the following attachments:
- A Canadian Common CV (CCV).
- An outline of proposed research in PDF format.
- All official undergraduate and graduate academic transcripts, showing fall 2021 registration if you are currently registered, in PDF format.
- Results: April 1, 2022 via Research Portal.
Overview
NSERC provides this financial support to high calibre scholars who are engaged in doctoral programs in the natural sciences or engineering. The CGS award will be offered to the top-ranked applicants. This support allows these scholars to fully concentrate on their studies and seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields. NSERC encourages interested and qualified Aboriginal students to apply.

- Complete applications and all supporting documentation is due to GB116 by 4:00 pm, Monday, September 20, 2022.
Results
- We expect results to be released by NSERC the following May.
Eligibility
- Please check full eligibility rules at the NSERC Website.
- You must be a Canadian Citizen or an Permanent Resident as of the date of your application.
- You must hold a degree in science or engineering at the time you hold the award.
- You must intend to pursue full-time PhD studies in the year you will hold the award.
- To be eligible for an award you must have completed no more than 24 months of your doctoral program for which you are seeking funding at the time you apply.
- You must not hold other conflicting scholarships at the time you will hold your NSERC.
How to Apply
For Applicants
- The NSERC Application process has moved online, so fewer paper resources will be used.
- Visit the NSERC Online Services Website and either log in or create an account if you do not yet have one.
- Once logged in, go to forms - students. Choose form 201, and hit create.
- Choose the doctoral application.
- Title your research project. The proposed starting date should be September 2022.
- Navigate all the pages of the application by using the navigation on the left side of the screen. Remember to save each page as you go.
- Assign Colleen Kelly as your University designate to upload your official academic transcripts. Family Name: Kelly, Given Name: Colleen, Email: cp.kelly@utoronto.ca
- Choose two referees, preferably Professors who know you well, and provide their information. You will want to provide your referees with a copy of your NSERC application before doing this part. You can print off a copy by hitting the Preview button.
- Order official academic transcripts from each institution you attended for undergraduate and graduate studies. Forward them or have them sent directly to Colleen Kelly in GB116, 35 St. George Street, Toronto, ON M5S 1A4 by 4:00 pm, Sept. 20, 2022.
- If you attended institutions outside of North America and we have a copy of the original documents in your admissions file, please let us know - we can use those for this award and there will be no need to order more. North American transcripts must be official and new.
- When you are entirely done and have confirmed all this information, save your application and allow time for us to upload your transcripts and for your referees to provide their references.
- The next time you log in, return to the forms - students page. You will now see your application in progress at the bottom of that screen. If you are satisfied that you are done, click verify. The online system will now check your application for errors or omissions. Correct any errors or omissions.
- Once verified, remember to hit submit to send your application forward by 4:00 pm, Sept. 20, 2022.
For Referees
- Once the applicant enters your information in the online application system, you will receive an email inviting you to provide a reference. Follow the link provided in the email.
- Fill out the brief profile on yourself, and use the navigation menu on the left to fill out each section as required.
- Hit Verify, and accept all the terms and conditions.

Overview
The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) program is designed to encourage excellence in graduate studies at the master and doctoral levels.
An OGS is awarded for one or two academic years, which may consist of two to six consecutive terms. The current value of the OGS is $5,000 per term. Thus, winners may receive a total of $10,000 for two consecutive terms or a total of $30,000 for six consecutive terms. It is most common for a student to receive $15,000 for three consecutive terms (one academic year). One-term awards are not granted.

- This award is open to both domestic and international students holding a valid study visa.
- Awards in the Department of Civil Engineering are open to people intending to study in the MASc or PhD programs in the Department of Civil Engineering in the upcoming academic year.
- If entering the first or second year of graduate studies at the time of application, you must have an overall average of A- or equivalent in the last 20 one-term courses completed.
- If entering the third or higher years of graduate studies at the time of application, you must have an overall average of A- or equivalent in all graduate level courses completed.
How to Apply
- You must apply to the University where you wish to hold the award. This includes prospective students who are also applying for admission to the University of Toronto for the first time.
- Go to the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies Ontario Graduate Scholarship website and fill out the online application.
- You may use ROSI printouts of your University of Toronto transcript for the purposes of this award.
- Make sure to upload all your documents and have your references complete their section by the due date. You will not be able to submit the form and make it visible to us to adjudicate unless it is complete by the due date.

- Awards in the Department of Civil Engineering are open to people intending to study in the MASc or PhD programs in the Department of Civil Engineering in the upcoming academic year.
- Awards in the Lassonde Institute of Mining are open to people intending to study in the MASc or PhD programs under the supervision of a member of the Lassonde Institute of Mining in the upcoming academic year.
- If entering the first or second year of graduate studies at the time of application, you must have an overall average of A- or equivalent in the last 20 one-term courses completed.
- If entering the third or higher years of graduate studies at the time of application, you must have an overall average of A- or equivalent in all graduate level courses completed.
How to Apply
- If you are affiliated with the Lassonde Institute of Mining, send an email to Teresa Miniaci and the Graduate Programs Coordinator letting them know that you are applying to the Lassonde Institute of Mining QEII-GSST awards in addition to QEII-GSST awards in your home department.
- Applications to the QEII-GSST awards are made through the OGS application system. If you have already applied for OGS, you do not need to do anything further and will be automatically considered for a QEII-GSST.
- Go to the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies Ontario Graduate Scholarship website and fill out the online application.
